“Don’t call me that,” I snap at him, irritated that he threw me off balance.

“Why not?”

“Because I don’t like it.”

His eyes twinkle in amusement. Sitting like this in the open, they look even lighter than before. Translucent almost. “And that’s exactly why I’ll keep calling you Sunshine, Sunshine. Now, are you done stalling?”

It’s unsettling knowing that Noah can read me so well.

“I wasn’t stalling, I was just thinking.”

“About what?”

“About the rules.”

Rules. That’s what I should be concentrating on. Not the way the sunlight strikes his hair and makes his eyes seem lighter. And definitely not the way his smile is so sweet it could give me cavities.

Noah puts his elbows on his knees, leaning forward. “If you need to think about the rules, why are we even setting them up?”

He’s so close I can see faint freckles covering the bridge of his nose.

I swallow, trying to move back, to put some distance between us, but there is nowhere to go. “So that we know the boundaries. Something you’re clearly unfamiliar with.”

“Oh, boundaries. I didn’t take you for a kinky one, but I guess it’s true what they say. Lady in the streets, beast between the sheets.”

“What is wrong with you? Are you insane?” I shove him away, my cheeks heating in embarrassment.

“Oh look, she’s blushing,” he laughs, that deep, almost raspy sound getting under my skin and making me shiver. “Cute, Sunshine. Real cute.”

Yami's Bookshelf 5 Stars Review

I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved this YA/Fake Romance to Real Romance between a cheerleader and the football team’s quarterback. The Stand In Boyfriend is Book # 5 of the Greyford High series. I need to go back and read the other books in this series now.  This is my first ever book read by Anna B Doe and won’t be my last. Anna blew it out of the park with The Stand-In Boyfriend.   This YA sports romance is a relatively quick read and I was so immersed in the story that I didn't want it to end.  Containing the perfect combination of teenage angst and sweetness, this coming of age novel accurately highlights the trials and tribulations of navigating high school, developing friendships, and experiencing dating.  Jessica is completely humiliated when she, and half the school, witness her boyfriend cheating on her, with her best cheerleading friend.  Noah is the popular high school quarterback, but he is remorseful over something he did last year with Jessy’s friend, Evie.  Starting off with the best of intentions Jessy and Noah embark on a fake relationship.  Of course, what could possibly go wrong?   This book has everything I love. It is sweet, not dark, tugs at your heartstrings and makes you wants to read more of it. I just wish there was another story to go along with this one, it was too short. I haven’t read the other book before this one, but I want to see more of Jessy and Noah after homecoming, What happens their senior year with their friends, etc.   I have fallen in love with Jessica and Noah and need more of them in my life.  The enemies to lovers/fake relationship trope is one that I absolutely love.  And if it a football themed romance book, I’m totally in.  The Stand-In Boyfriend is a well written, sweet YA romance with an interesting storyline and likable characters.  It was exactly what I needed during this time of stress as it captured my attention and left my heart feeling happy for a HEA ending.
